Collaborating as an Individual

There are a lot of exciting ways to get involved with SYMin as an individual from volunteer slots to decorating and donations.

Book a tour

Want to see our facilities and learn more about what SYMin does? Then booking a tour is a great idea! We host tours on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30-4pm and 5:45-6:15pm. Feel free to bring a friend or two to join you if you would like.

Sign up to volunteer at one of our weekly events

We need help from volunteers at several weekly events. The majority of these volunteer shifts are focused on what we call client engagement. Rather than completing a physical task, your main objective is to break the ice and talk to our clients. All volunteers are required to apply for these positions. These events include:

Sort items and help clients find clothing in our Sunshine Store

Thanks to our amazing in-kind donors we always have plenty of clothing to sort and stock in our Sunshine store. We have shifts in the Sunshine store where sorting is the main objective and others where helping clients find clothing is what is important. We appreciate both types of help! All volunteers are required to apply for these positions.

Donate camping, self-care or outreach bags

Support us by providing the food and toiletry bags we provide clients on site and during our bi-weekly outreaches in the community. We've made it easy for you by providing a list of components that you purchase, assemble into sturdy (non-paper) bags and bring to us once completed. We encourage you to make notes of encouragement as well to put in the bags — clients love these! This can be completed as an individual, or recruit some friends to help!

Provide treats for our clients to enjoy on holidays or regular days

We love to celebrate with clients and mark holidays with special treats and activities! Whether it's Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Halloween or something in between, we would love for individuals to collaborate by providing yummy snacks. Trauma-informed care suggests that food should always be accessible. We daily provide snacks to our clients, so even if it's not a holiday, feel free to donate treats! We will use them!

Decorate one of our Learning Center rooms

In a similar vein to the above opportunity, we would love for individuals to decorate our Learning Center rooms for holidays and the seasons. Our Learning Center has five small rooms. You could decorate as many or as few as you feel comfortable with. You would provide decor and decorate. Staff will be on site to help! You can also set up a tour beforehand if it helps to determine what you will need for the room.

Let us know how you or your group might like to collaborate.
