We've collected together the best ways to respond to our collaborator newsletter here for you!
  • Strengthening the Family
  • Christmas Program
  • While Christmas is perceived to be a happy and joyful time spent with families, it can also be stressful -- the expense of gifts and food, the pressure of shopping, and the season's expectations. To alleviate some of the stress, each of our clients will receive a wrapped gift the last week before Christmas or at our Christmas party Dec 20. Clients must be age 28 or under and homeless, at-risk of homelessness or in a program to prevent homelessness. Homeless young adults can reach out to our helpline at 512-553-3796 or e-mail info@symin.org.

  • In addition, our clients with young children face throughout this holiday season, we are asking our community to help make Christmas more special this year by sponsoring a child. The parent will receive a developmentally appropriate Christmas gift and book. They must be our client (same requirements as above) and sign-up. The link is below:

  •  Thanksgiving Plans
We aren't providing a Thanksgiving meal kit this year, as it has become very popular in other agencies around the Austin area.

We are organizing a special community meal for our clients to join us at our facility at 2008 Justin Lane on November 26th. Remember, no sign-up is required; just come and enjoy the meal with us if you meet the client eligibility! (This is not an open meal for all.)

Our clients have told us about a significant food scarcity while the rest of the world is shopping on the days after Thanksgiving. To address this, we will be distributing food plates at the door of our facility at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, November 29th, and Saturday, November 30th. Homeless young adults are welcome to come by our facility and receive a food plate. We'll ensure they have something to eat when a few agencies are open. However, we won't be offering any other services on those days and can't serve people outside our client eligibility requriments unfortunately.
  • Christmas Caroling with SYMin!
In the spirit of the holidays, we will offer our clients a chance to give back to others in our community. We plan to visit a nearby retirement center to deliver handmade hats, sing Christmas carols, and spread the holiday cheer! If you feel this interests your homeless young adult clients, please have them reach out to our helpline at 512-553-3796 or e-mail info@symin.org.
  • Networking
If you are a mentor, a representative from an agency wanting to extend your services to our clients, or a community member wanting to share your knowledge with our clients in a short session, we have a space and time for you to do so! Street Youth Ministry is designating a Networking Hour every Wednesday afternoon from 3-4 pm.

During this time, you will interact with our clients and staff to explain what you do and how you believe it would benefit our clients. There are computers available on-site for you or our clients to utilize during your presentation. If you are interested, please sign up for a time slot below. If you have any questions, please e-mail vol@symin.org. Thank you for helping us know, love, and serve our street-dependent youth!
