Dear {{Recipient.FirstName}},
My name is Jessica Pham. I've been working at SYMin for about a year now and I have been coordinating volunteerism since the start of the year. Volunteers include those who:
- help with food or the reuse of needed material,
- help in our Sunshine Store or on outreach events,
- work virtually on "big help" items, or
- help as a group on Fridays and Saturdays.
All can make a difference at SYMin for our awe-inspiring clients! This newsletter shows a few of the ways. You can get started and explore many more ways to volunteer at connect.SYMin.org.
If you can no longer volunteer, you can use our subscription center to change to our quarterly newsletters to stay informed about our awe-inspiring clients but not volunteerism.
Jessica Pham and the whole SYMin team

Ways you can
help right now!
Easter is coming up in a very short time, and we will be providing special services for our clients. Here are two ways you can help out:
Sponsor "All the Fixin's"
We love to provide all the fixings for an Easter meal to clients who have a lease and kitchen and are willing to cook for others in need. Purchase and provide the uncooked nonperishable fixings for a holiday meal for six.
We’ll provide a suggested shopping list that typically costs between $35 and $45. This is a great volunteer activity to do with your kids, a small group, office friends, or neighbors! You can sign up to provide more than one meal kit if you would like to complete it with different groups.
Please make some fun table decorations and include notes of encouragement! Note: SYMin provides frozen turkey, butter, and rolls.Delivery should be between 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. (Monday through Friday only) on the due date or before. It's our new location on Justin Ln just off Burnet (across from La La's).
Sponsor "Strengthening the Family"
Parenting and relationships are frequent topics for our client support groups, and as a result we designed a special program for them called “Strengthening the Family.” Parents receive developmental toys and resource books.
Volunteers purchase and wrap a developmentally appropriate package for each child, including a book and a toy. Also included are a cute, simple, laminated educational insert for the parent that includes ideas for helping/playing with their child in ways that helped them developmentally, plus a parent support gift with words of encouragement and a Starbucks gift card.
To be eligible, clients had to be active and have some regular contact with the child. Find out more by clicking on the link below:

CONNECT.SYMin.org is updated!
Use our Connect.SYMin.org website to navigate quickly to areas we call Learn More, Big Helps, Serve, Reuse and Give. Here are some examples from some of those categories. They're 'HOT" right now!
Reuse
Pants needed -- We need dozens and dozens of small and medium pants to stock up. We've been out of these sizes for almost all year. They come in slowly and they go out fast. If you live in an area or know of a source of lots of thrift pants, we need them! Pray we find the right source for this. We can't help but believe that Austin recycles or trashes lots of pants daily.
Reusable plastic bags -- We use these for our various food bags that we distribute to clients. These include camping bags that contain easy-to-handle foods suitable for those living on the streets, and outreach bags that are given to those we meet at various sites in Austin and in San Marcos.
Food
Street outreach bags -- We do outreach in at least 5 sessions every week. We give out a small bag of food or give people in need (regardless of age) or offer an alternative to receive a bus pass so they can feed themselves in different ways. We give out more than 60 bags per week.
Bread for client sandwiches -- We go through a lot of sandwiches because our kitchen doesn't allow preparation of hot meals. We need about 18 loaves of bread per week but only get about 6 through donation. We get the rest delivered typically to save staff time and stretch dollars.
Give 4 camping bags -- Our clients can receive camping food bags filled with easy-to-handle food for the streets, three times a week when visiting us. Our clients with kitchens can get food pantry bags instead.
Big Helps
Hygiene Bags (Self-Care Bags) for Outreach -- We're almost completely out. Outreach clients have have noticed that our stock has been pretty low. The weather's starting to warm up and there has been a greater need for them. Details.
Lost Donor Study -- Help us identify the major causes of donor erosion. It's been a few years since it was done, and gaining insight into why our donor base that declined will be helpful. If this is you, use the "email owner" link to engage with our team.
San Marcos Outreach -- Help make sure 20 individuals in San Marcos have immediate needs like food and clothing met!.
First donation options
Month of art supplies — $100 -- We hold 3 hours of art therapy group weekly with clients. We need funds monthly for special art supplies to keep sessions engaging and interesting. So much good healing happens while hands are busy.
San Marcos Outreach -- $53 -- We are in San Marcos twice a week. Our team meets with clients and volunteers and distribute lots of necessities in the parking lot. This covers intern, volunteer management, and in-kind donation logistics and serves about 20 people.
2 Electronic gift cards -- $50 -- We encourage our clients to participate in learning, volunteering, and groups with our SYMinU program. They earn points through passing classes, giving time, and weekly raffles for participation. Clients in-town redeem them at our store, but clients who are in other locations can receive an Amazon gift card by email.
Thu 3-14 -- Clients sing, dance, read their own poetry, rap and reveal other surprises at our weekly Talent Night. .
Mon 3-11 -- Three clients inspect what’s available at our Sunshine Store.
Fri 3-8 -- Our clients always let their playful sides show during Friday Fun Day.
Tue 3-5 -- Clients gathered for Heart to Heart Virtual Peer Support Group.
Sat. 2-17 — Thank you to the youth group from Covenant Presbyterian Church that helped us renovate a room in a house on our property and interacted with our clients.
Fri 2-16 -- The SYMin outreach team served clients at our San Marcos location.
And one last thing ...
To celebrate St. Patrick's Day, staff and volunteers made yummy St. Patrick’s Day goodies and burgers, and clients came to fill their bellies and get out of the cold, rainy weather. Rosie joined the action!
